When the Gears Grind to a Halt

"How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me?" — Psalm 13:1

We like to think that if we follow the "blueprint," everything should run smoothly. But sometimes, despite our best efforts and our most sincere prayers, nothing works. The machine stalls. The doors stay locked. In those moments, it’s easy to mistake God’s silence for His absence. But even King David—a man after God’s own heart—cried out, "How long?" Silence isn't a sign that He’s finished with you; often, it’s a sign that He is doing a work in you that words can't describe. When you can't see His hand moving, you have to trust His heart. He hasn't missed a single tear, and He hasn't overlooked a single struggle. He is the God of the breakthrough, even when the breakthrough is still over the horizon.

Today, stop trying to "fix" the situation for one hour. Instead of asking God why it’s happening, ask Him for the strength to endure it. Say: "Lord, I don't feel You right now, and I don't see the way out, but I choose to believe You are still in control."
